What is a VPS?
A Virtual Private Server is a slice of a physical server that acts like your own machine. You get root access, your own OS, and dedicated resources (CPU, RAM, disk) β without paying for a whole dedicated server.
How to use a VPS
1. Buy
Pick a provider, choose specs (1C1G to 8C16G), pay monthly or hourly.
2. SSH in
Connect with ssh user@ip. Install software, deploy websites, run bots.
3. Manage
Use Nginx/Caddy for sites, Docker for apps, cron for tasks. Back up regularly.
How to choose
- Location β US users: Vultr, DO, Linode, SurferCloud. China users: Alibaba, Tencent, Huawei (need ICP). EU: Hetzner, OVH, Contabo.
- Specs β Start with 1C1G or 2C4G. Scale to 4C8G or 8C16G for heavier loads.
- Billing β Fixed monthly vs hourly. Hourly is better if you start/stop often.
- Bandwidth β Check included traffic. Some charge extra.
